Troubleshooting at Home
Select the model you would like to troubleshoot from the dropdown list below:
Scenario 1, The clippers do not turn on:
Problem: With either battery inserted into the handset, the clipper does not turn on.
Solution: The first step in troubleshooting this issue is to determine if there is a fault with either the batteries or the charger.
Charger – The charger has an LED indicator to inform the user of both the battery and charger status.
LED Sequence:
- The LED on the charging dock should be GREEN once plugged in (without a battery installed). This indicates the charger is working and ready to charge a battery.
- Once the battery is placed into the charging dock, the LED should turn RED signifying the battery is now charging.
- Once the battery is fully charged, the LED on the charger will turn GREEN. At this point, the batteries should be taken out of the charging dock and into the clipper.
Once both the batteries and charger have been ruled out, the fault lies within the handset. Inspect the air vents over the body of the clipper for oil and moisture. Incorrect oiling methods can cause excessive oil to build up around the motor causing it to fail. This can either be repaired at home by viewing our spare parts section or can be sent into our workshop to be repaired by one of our technicians.
Scenario 2, The clippers turn on, but the blades don’t move.
Problem: The clippers turn on and the motor is working but the blades are not moving.
Solution: This is likely due to a sheared tooth on the drive cog. This occurs when either the blades have been tensioned too tight, or there is dirt / debris trapped between the teeth of the cutter and comb.
To repair this problem, a new drive cog needs to be installed onto the head of the clipper. This can either be purchased from our spare parts section and installed at home or you may send in your clippers to our workshop to be repaired by one of our technicians.
To install the new drive cog, remove the two black head screws which mount it to the body. The head should then be free from the body and ready to inspect. You should notice a worn tooth on the drive cog which reaffirms the initial diagnosis. To replace this part, simply remove the existing retaining clip from the drive shaft and remove the worn cog. Insert the new drive cog in the same orientation as the original came off and replace the retaining clip. Install the head back onto the body of the clipper and test.
Scenario 3, The clipper isn’t cutting
Problem: Whilst clipping, you have noticed that the blades are no longer cutting effectively or “chewing” the hair as you attempt to clip.
Solution: This issue is more than likely due to your blades being blunt or tensioned incorrectly. The first step is to ensure the tension is set correctly. Start by tightening the tension nut all the way not and make a note of which direction the arrow is pointing on top. Then unscrew the tension dial back 3 full turns. This should be a good starting tension which can be further fine-tuned.
If the blades still don’t cut after tensioning, it is highly likely the blades themselves are blunt. Blades can either be resharpened or alternatively you can purchase another set.
Scenario 4, The blades become hot.
Problem: Whilst clipping, you notice that the blades get hot.
Solution: Overheating blades is either due to inadequate lubrication, blunt blades, incorrect tension, or a build of dirt/debris between the comb and cutter. Ensure the blades are oiled every 3-5 minutes to keep them cool and sharper for longer. Start by tightening the tension nut all the way not and make a note of which direction the arrow is pointing on top. Then unscrew the tension dial back 3 full turns. This should be a good starting tension which can be further fine-tuned. If the blades are lacking in performance and getting too hot, this is a common sign of blunt blades and means they require sharpening or a new set.
