WHEN SHOULD YOU START USING DOG CLIPPERS?

It is a good idea to get your four legged friend used to dog clippers from an early age. This will ensure that when you groom your dog at home on a regular basis, he will be familiar with the dog clippers and it will make dog grooming at home a pleasure.

You must however wait until the coat has developed and fully grown out before giving your dog its first clip. Because each breed of dog and coat type is different, this can vary between about 6 months and a year old before you can clip your dog.

Are different clippers really necessary for different dog breeds?

Yes — and it makes a real difference. Each dog’s coat behaves differently when clipped. For example, Cockapoo grooming requires a sharper, narrower blade than something like a Labrador's, which might just need a tidy-up around the edges. I’ve got two dogs — can I just use one clipper for both?

You can, in some cases — especially if they’ve got similar coat types. But if you’re switching between a curly-coated Poodle and a short-haired Boxer, you’ll get much better results with the right blades. Our clipper blades and accessories are available separately if you’d rather not buy two full kits.

I’ve never groomed a dog before. Is this going to be a nightmare?
