The Irish Water Spaniel is the largest and oldest of spaniels which is native to Ireland. This sturdy breed is believed to be a combination of the Poodle and Irish Setter, or the Poodle and the Curly Coated Retriever or the Poodle and the Portuguese Water Dog. With it's distinct liver coloured curly coat, these dogs were used as a dual-purpose hunting dog, working both land and water.
