The Scottish Deerhound Scissor Duo

Every Scottish Deerhound owner understands the importance of keeping their dog's coat well cared for. With their expressive faces, shaggy brows and tall, graceful builds, Scottish Deerhounds have an unmistakable appeal. Regular grooming helps keep them comfortable and looking tidy. Coat care should respect their naturally rugged appearance, with home scissor work kept minimal and considered. This duo is intended only for occasional finishing touches where appropriate.

Bull Nose Safety Scissors

Designed with rounded tips for extra safety, these scissors may be useful for carefully tidying small amounts of excess hair around your Scottish Deerhound's feet, where needed and appropriate.

Ideal for small areas that require a gentle touch, their rounded tips help reduce the risk of accidental pokes while you tidy. Always work slowly, keep the blades clear of the skin and avoid cutting into mats or tangles. Leave hair close to or between the pads to a professional groomer if you cannot clearly see where you are cutting. Rounded tips do not remove the risk of injury, so leave difficult or sensitive areas to a professional.

Thinning Scissors and a Natural Finish

A Scottish Deerhound's coat is naturally harsh and wiry on the body, with softer hair on the head, chest and belly. Grooming should preserve this texture and the breed's characteristic shaggy outline, with minimal trimming.

Thinning scissors are generally unnecessary for routine coat care. They should only be considered for very minor finishing touches if a professional groomer familiar with Scottish Deerhounds recommends them and demonstrates a suitable technique.

These scissors should not be used at home to thin the body coat, remove large amounts of hair or sculpt a sharply defined outline. Keep the beard, brows, body coat and tail natural, with any necessary work around sensitive areas left to an experienced professional.

This duo does not replace regular brushing, combing and appropriate coat care. Whiskers should be left untouched, and mats or tangles should never be cut out with scissors at home. The aim is a comfortable, tidy finish that preserves your Scottish Deerhound's natural coat texture and distinctive appearance.
