Coat care should respect their harsh coat and naturally rustic appearance, with home scissor work kept minimal and considered. Scissors are generally unnecessary for routine coat maintenance.

Bull Nose Safety Scissors

Designed with rounded tips for extra safety, these scissors should only be considered for carefully tidying small amounts of excess hair at your Spinone Italiano's feet if a professional groomer familiar with the breed identifies a practical need.

Their rounded tips help reduce the risk of accidental pokes while you tidy. Always work slowly, keep the blades clear of the skin and avoid cutting into mats or tangles. Leave hair close to or between the pads to a professional groomer if you cannot clearly see where you are cutting. Rounded tips do not remove the risk of injury, so leave difficult or sensitive areas, including around the eyes, ears and lips, to a professional.

Thinning Scissors and a Natural Finish

A Spinone Italiano's coat should be harsh and dense, retaining the breed's natural appearance. Regular brushing and appropriate hand-stripping to remove dead hair may be needed, with advice from your breeder or a groomer experienced with Spinone coats.

Thinning scissors are generally unsuitable for maintaining the traditional coat. They should not be used at home to thin the body coat, blend the beard or sculpt the outline. Breed guidance favours a natural finish without scissoring, using appropriate removal of dead hair rather than cutting the coat into shape.

These scissors should not be used to remove large amounts of hair or attempt a complete restyle. Keep the beard, brows and body coat natural, with any necessary work around sensitive areas left to an experienced professional.

This duo does not replace regular brushing, combing where needed and appropriate coat maintenance. Whiskers should be left untouched, and mats or tangles should never be cut out with scissors at home.
