The West Highland Terrier Scissor Duo
Every West Highland Terrier owner understands the importance of keeping their dog's coat well cared for. With their bright white coats, expressive faces and sturdy builds, West Highland Terriers have an unmistakable appeal. Regular grooming helps keep them comfortable and looking tidy. Coat care should respect their double coat, with home scissor work kept minimal and considered. This duo is intended only for occasional finishing touches where appropriate.
Bull Nose Safety Scissors
Designed with rounded tips for extra safety, these scissors may be useful for carefully tidying small amounts of excess hair around your West Highland Terrier's feet, where needed and appropriate.
Ideal for small areas that require a gentle touch, their rounded tips help reduce the risk of accidental pokes while you tidy. Always work slowly, keep the blades clear of the skin and avoid cutting into mats or tangles. Dense hair can conceal the skin, so leave hair close to or between the pads to a professional groomer if you cannot clearly see where you are cutting. Rounded tips do not remove the risk of injury, so leave difficult or sensitive areas to a professional.
Thinning Scissors and a Natural Finish
A West Highland Terrier has a harsh outer coat and a soft, dense undercoat. Regular brushing and thorough combing help maintain the coat, with particular attention needed around the legs, feet and longer furnishings, where tangles can develop.
Thinning scissors are not a replacement for the specialist coat maintenance a West Highland Terrier may need. They should only be considered for very minor finishing touches if a professional groomer familiar with West Highland Terrier coats recommends them and demonstrates a suitable technique.
These scissors should not be used at home to heavily thin the body coat, remove large amounts of hair or dramatically reshape your dog's natural outline. Maintaining the breed's characteristic harsh texture may involve professional hand-stripping, depending on the coat and grooming needs of the individual dog. Leave shaping the face, trimming around the ears and other sensitive areas, along with any more involved styling, to an experienced professional.
This duo does not replace regular brushing, combing and appropriate coat care. Whiskers should be left untouched, and mats or tangles should never be cut out with scissors at home. The aim is a comfortable, tidy finish that respects your West Highland Terrier's natural coat texture and distinctive appearance.
